BNP on Saturday submitted a list of 298 candidates of the party and its alliance partners of Jatiya Oikyafront and the 20-partry to the Election Commission (EC) requesting it to allocate the party’s election symbol ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ to them to contest the December-30 national election.

The party did not submit the names of LDP chairman Col (retd) Oli Ahmed (Chattogram-14) and Jamaat leader Hamidur Rahman Azad (Cox’s Bazar-2). Oli is going to contest the election with his own party symbol 'Umbrella' while Hamidur Rahman Azad as an independent candidate.

A BNP delegation submitted the list to the EC in the afternoon, according to UNB report.

Earlier, the party had decided to field its own candidates in 242 constituencies and share 58 seats with its partners from the Jatiya Oikyafront and the 20-party alliance.

BNP shared 19 seats with Oikyafront’s components and 39 with its 20 party partners, including 22 with Jamaat. The party had shared 41 sets along with its the then alliance partners in the 2008 general election.

Voting is underway in Bhashantek, Manikdi and ECB regions of Dhaka-17 constituencies. But the number of voters is not to be seen. Voter turnout is increasing in some centers. A crowd of women voters has been seen in the center than men.

Today, a few polling stations in Ravira's Bhashantek, Manikdi and ECB regions showed that the maximum number of votes was 16 percent. And a minimum of 3 percent votes were cast.
Bhashantech Muktijoddha High School has three polling stations. It is a women polling station.

Its number 1 center has 2934 voters. Out of this, 492 people voted from 8 am to 12 pm. In other words, 16 percent votes have been cast. The remaining 2 centers have 2961 and 2929 voters.

Out of this, 237 and 202 votes were cast. In other words, 8 percent and 6.9 percent votes have been received in 2 centers.

After Bhashantech Muktijoddha High School, Dewan Para's Ideal School and College polled 6 percent. The number of voters here is 2871. Among them, 173 votes were cast.

Bhashantech School and College has 4 polling stations. Out of these 2 male polling stations and 2 female polling stations. There are 2,423 and 2,403 voters in male polling station 2. Among them, 100 and 150 were voted. Which is 4 and 6 percent. 24 percent. On the other hand, there are 2224 and 2204 people in Nari Kendra 2. Among them, 70 and 66 people have voted. Which is 3.50 and 3 percent in percentage.

Kulsum, a resident of Bhashantek, came to vote sitting in a wheel chair. "I have become the first voter," Kulsoom told Kal Kantha So I came to vote. I feel very good with the vote.'

Bhashantech Muktijoddha High School's Pegiding Officer Abul Bashar told Kal Kantha, 'My center has got the highest number of votes. There were not many voters in the morning. The number of voters is increasing day by day. We are hoping for a good turnout in the end.'

Meanwhile, the voters are asked to come to vote by rickshaw miking. So that they come to the polling station and vote.

Meanwhile, Awami League member Mohammad Ali Arafat came to visit Bhashantek polling station some time ago. He told Kaler Kantho, 'Voting environment means boat. Boats are everywhere now. Voter turnout is low in some constituencies. But all in all it is a good vote. Now let's see what happens.'

After Arafat, independent candidate Hero Alam visited the polling station. He said that there is no hope of winning. He told Kaler Kantho, 'The environment here is somewhat good. But the environment in other places is not good.'

Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League (AL) Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP was not called for holding any dialogue.

"A recent statement of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir gives the impression that we have called them for a dialogue. But they were not called for dialogues," he said, replying to a query of reporters at his official residence in the city's Minto Road.
 
The minister reaffirmed that there is no scope of holding any dialogue on caretaker government issue. 

Dr Hasan said the next general elections will be held as per the constitution of Bangladesh and the incumbent government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will act as the polls-time government. BNP must accept the reality, he added. 

He said BNP's demand for a caretaker government didn't get any support from home and international arena. The demand "died in the field" and it was rejected by the global community, he said. 

BNP will have to come in the polls by accepting the reality, the information minister continued.
 
Replying to another query over the upcoming visit of a delegation of European Union (EU) at the invitation of the Election Commission (EC), Dr Hasan said this visit is very important and it proves that the EC is working independently.
 
He said the independent EC invites the delegation to hold a free, fair, neutral and participatory election. The delegation will assess the situation for sending observers and preparations for the polls. They will also hold meetings with different political parties, Dr Hasan said.

A Dhaka court today placed BNP's Dhaka south city unit member secretary Rafiqul Alam Majnu and Jubo Dal general secretary Monayem Munna one-day remand each in two separate subversion cases.
 
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farah Diba Chanda passed the order as police produced them before the court and pleaded to place them on 10-day remand in the two cases filed with the capital's Motijheel Police Station.
 
According to the case documents, BNP men brought out a protest rally in RK Mission Road area on August 29, 2021, and started vandalizing vehicles and throwing brickbats on police. A couple of law enforcers were injured in the unprovoked attack.
 
Police later filed the two cases over the incident.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has warned the government that there will be no election in this country without a caretaker government. He said that the Awami League has started the election game with the next national parliament election. People could not vote in 2014 and 2018. Awami League wants to play election game with upcoming elections.

He said this in a speech before a protest march in front of the BNP central office in Nayapaltan on Friday. The Nationalist Labor Party organized workers' rallies and marches.

Fakhrul said, we need a free and fair election. This requires a non-partisan caretaker government.

Today the nation is united in demanding a neutral government. No elections will be held in this country unless under a caretaker government. The government must resign, handing over power to a non-partisan caretaker government.

He complained that the Awami League government is staying in power by force.
